ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Donald L. Houseman was born in Kasson, Minnesota in 1950 and grew up in nearby Mantorville, Minnesota. He attributes his interest in art, architecture, and history to this small former stagecoach town as well as the influence of his first art teacher, Marilyn Fredrickson. Houseman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1972.  He accepted a visual arts teaching position that same year at Blackduck High School in Blackduck, Minnesota. Houseman dedicated 34 years to teaching, retiring in 2006. He has since turned his full attention to artwork.

Houseman is a member of the Studio 10 artist group in the Bemidji, Minnesota area and has exhibited across the state, including the communities of Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Willmar, New London, Marshall, Blackduck, and his hometown of Mantorville. Houseman is also known for his children’s books, having written, illustrated, and self-published three stories.

He lives with his wife Janet on Gull Lake, West of Tenstrike, Minnesota. They have three adult children and eight grandchildren.
