“I feel so much gratitude for having participated in the wonderful retreats that Bob Crowe has hosted. There is so much talent at every retreat that I can’t help but to learn and grow from these wonderful painters that I’ve been so fortunate to spend quality time with each year. My paintings reflect the energy and camaraderie of the retreat, and of the artists who I work alongside in the field, or in the house, if weather requires it.
My paintings are either from direct observation while painting at the Crowe farm or derived from discussions at the retreat that motivated me. There are always interesting conversations about painting, or about great artists of the present or past. These conversations occur out in the field at our easels, or on the porch, or at the dinner table. They are ongoing and lively, and they really fuel my painting fire. I always return from the retreat inspired and energized!” PAUL KELLETT grew up with a with a brush in his hand that his Mom put there to keep him from drawing on the walls! He drew and painted energetically throughout his young life. In college he studied art history and painting with a wonderful professor and painter named Marilyn Wood at Normandale College. She taught him the classical elements of composition, which he has carried into every painting that he has made since. Paul paints with almost every media, including pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil and even encaustic wax. His paintings often include a mix of these various forms of pigmentation. He has won numerous awards in regional, national and international juried competitions, and his works are in many private and public collections. |
