Intro to Smart Phone Filmmaking: Videography and Editing, with Jonathan Rattner2 to 4 p.m. on 11 April 2026
Duration: 2 hours Course fee: $25* (Two full need-based scholarships are available for students experiencing financial hardship. In this class, we will teach and review the basics of documentary videography and give you hands on experience shooting and editing your own project. The instructor has experience teaching filmmaking to all ages, from 8 to 85, and all skill levels are welcome, whether you are a beginner or have prior experience. The class is collaborative, and we will be using free editing software. Supplies / Proper Attire: A smartphone and have room on your phone to download a free app. This class will be both inside and outside so participants should have comfortable clothes for walking around outside. * Cancel your registration up to 14 days prior to class day by emailing [email protected] for a partial refund. About Your Instructor: Jonathan Rattner is an artist and filmmaker that primarily produces experimental documentary films and videos. He holds an M.F.A in Film and Video Production from the University of Iowa, an M.F.A. in Intermedia Art from the University of Iowa, and a B.F.A. in Film and Television from Tisch School for the Arts, N.Y.U. He has exhibited work in galleries, museums, microcinemas, festivals, and universities internationally. From fall of 2005 to the summer of 2009 he acted as the creative director of Iowa City Senior Television, a twenty-year-old station consisting of crewmembers whose ages range from 65 to 89. Since 2009, he has been a Professor of Cinema & Media Arts and Art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. |
