Still Life Yoga: The Art of Doing Less, with Casey Wollschlaeger11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Two Friday sessions: November 13, December 11 Course fee: $6 per session for Rourke members, $12 per session for non-members (registration below) **Drop-in participation slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis Age requirement: This class is geared toward adults; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. In a society that favors constant motion and ties our worth to our productivity, it can feel uncomfortable or even impossible to slow down and find ease in stillness. And so we invite you to escape the grind and do just that. Join us on the gallery floor for an hour of lying down and making strange shapes with our bodies, just for fun! This slow paced, beginner-friendly class centers mindful movement that reduces muscular effort and invites the body to relax into each posture. Students will be encouraged to explore passive poses with longer holds to facilitate stillness of body and mind, release physical tension, increase flexibility, and promote deep nervous system relaxation. Supply/Proper Attire: Please wear comfortable clothes you can move around in, and bring a water bottle, yoga mat, and any props that you like to use (blanket, blocks, bolster). We will have a few extra yoga mats available to borrow.
