On view 15 November 2019 - 12 January 2020 in the Main Gallery
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve embraced the American landscape and the spirit which it embodies as my major subject. In this latest series of work “Pilgrimage to Nature,” I’ve focused on the National Parks. The magnificent mountains and rivers exude a mysterious and unfathomable passion, the majestic plains and forests are full of hidden treasures. |
“National parks are the best idea we ever had.
Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst.” --Wallace Stegner Zhimin Guan has been a professor of art at MSUM since 1998. Guan has exhibited his art throughout the United States and China. His works have been featured in numerous art publications and are included in the collections of the North Dakota governor’s office, Microsoft, Kilbourne Group, Singapore Asian Art Gallery, Plains Art Museum, North Dakota Museum of Art, and The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum.
